From Scoops to Staffing: How Roderick Batson Is Redefining Opportunity for Houston’s Heroes
City Controller Chris Hollins shakes hands with Rod Batson
On a humid Houston morning, beneath the marble halls of City Hall, something revolutionary took place—quietly powerful, culturally relevant, and community-focused.
Entrepreneur and advocate Roderick Batson, known for launching Howdy Homemade Ice Cream, just leveled up. Batson announced the launch of Helping Heroes Staffing, a new agency that creates career pathways for individuals with disabilities—training them in marketing, life skills, and brand representation.
What began with an ice cream shop staffed by 90% special needs employees has grown into a movement. With City Controller Chris Hollins and Kroger now officially on board, the agency will place “Hero” employees in five Kroger locations across Houston, League City, Friendswood, and Bryan. More than employment, this initiative empowers individuals with the tools, confidence, and community they need to thrive.
“This ain’t charity. It’s opportunity,” Batson told 2LOUD. “We’re investing in people who’ve been overlooked for too long.”
The event also teased future partnerships with other Houston business sectors, making this not just a job initiative—but a full-circle moment for inclusion in the culture.
As always, 2LOUD is there when impact and authenticity intersect. Stay tuned.
