Krewe of Porus Kicks Off Mardi Gras Season With Donor Reception at Only Original Art

Mardi Gras season officially arrived in Houston as the Krewe of Porus hosted an intimate Donor Reception on Wednesday night at Only Original Art, setting the tone for a week of culture, tradition, and celebration.
Held in the heart of Montrose, Only Original Art provided the perfect backdrop for the evening. The contemporary gallery is known for spotlighting emerging and established artists while doubling as a community gathering space—making it a natural fit for an event rooted in heritage and connection. Guests arrived in after-5 attire, filling the gallery with conversation, color, and unmistakable Mardi Gras energy.
The reception offered a more personal look at the Krewe of Porus, giving supporters and invited guests a chance to connect ahead of the main event. From the art-lined walls to the stylish crowd, the night felt intentional—equal parts culture and celebration.

The Krewe of Porus also officially unveiled its 2026 Royal Court during the Mardi Gras Donor Reception, marking a historic moment for the organization. Vanessa Cole was announced as the First Queen Porus-Elect, becoming the inaugural woman to hold the title. A real estate developer, Realtor, and co-founder of Cole Klein Builders, Cole is known for her work in affordable housing, sustainable development, and community empowerment.
Joining her is King Ron Lockett, an award-winning community leader, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Go3 Vodka, whose influence spans business, service, and civic leadership. Together, the Royal Court represents the Krewe of Porus’ commitment to culture, legacy, and building strong communities across Houston.
This reception was just the beginning.
The Krewe of Porus Mardi Gras Gala takes place this Saturday, January 31, at the Thompson Hotel, where the full pageantry of Mardi Gras will be on display.
